"He's Not You"

He let me in and told me his thoughts
Not once holding his breath or taking a pause.
My whole life all I ever sought
Was to know the past and damages caused.
He's not you.

He took my hand and walked by my side
Telling me the ins and outs of his story.
I asked questions and apologized knowing he didn't mind
And instead he continued in all his pride and glory.
He's not you.

The promises and plans he made
Were always being set in motion.
Through my ups and downs he would wade
But leaving me, no, he never felt the notion.
He's not you.

You scolded me and had your fun
But he glued together the pieces you broke.
He holds me knowing it was me he won
And all you can do is pretend it's a joke..
I'm glad he's not you.

"Having Everything, Wanting More"

Organizing my pearls
Rearranging my closets
Looking at everything I own
Knowing it's everything I've dreamed of
Start to cry
I sit in front of my mirror wondering
Wondering what it's like
Seeing my future and being unhappy
If I could give all of this up I would
I would for Love

"A Future Life"

Beverly Whaley creates a life of her own
Who wonders if she will be alone
Who hears the comforts of helping voices
Who sees her life in the future
Who wants to be and feel happy
Beverly Whaley creates a life of her own

Who pretends to know what she is doing
Who feels that she can do whatever she wants
Who worries about how others might react
Who cries when there is no one there to help her
Beverly Whaley creates a life of her own

Who understands how it feels to be away
Who says everything will be alright
Who dreams of having everything she's ever needed
Who tries to find herself
Who hopes she can fulfill not only her dreams, but the dreams of the people she loves
Beverly Whaley creates a life of her own

"I Am From...."

I am from children happily laughing
muddy water splashing
sister yelling
smelling lilacs growing

I am from Grandma's warm house
peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
please and thank you
use a napkin

I am from secret tree houses
parents not knowing
dirt and grass
swinging from the jungle gym

I am from cold water splashing
crisp blue pool water
swimming on a hot summer day

I am from my sister's closet
playing with dolls
trying on clothes
making a complete mess

I am from hugs and kisses
staying at grandpa's loving house
in bed by ten
hearing grandma's caring voice

I am from companionship
tails wagging
falling asleep next to me
my dogs: Woody and Buddy

I am from late nights
working with friends
playing cards until
the wee hours of the morning

I am from my home
playing outside on a summer day
parent's laughing and
grilling
sitting back and
loving life.

"Soul Mate"

You were mine and I was yours.
We shared stories, laughs and oars.
While you left me brokenhearted and astray,
You've come back to be with me every step of the way.

"Take Me Back"

Let me make you happy,
I can be the one to bring you back.
Just show me what you need,
And I'll grab my books to pack.

This feels all too familiar,
We've been on this journey before.
Even though we faced each other,
You were always halfway out the door.

But this time is different,
We've both grown and aged.
We may be the same,
Yet everything has changed.

Punch drunk on a feeling,
We know it won't be long.
You say you want it and I say I need it,
Because we both want to be wrong.

Come Inside, Look Around

Welcome to my second blog!

"Hello, Sunshine" has received a wonderful response and following and because of this, I have decided to create "Sunshine Mind". This second blog will be the platform for original poems that I write as well as short stories and insights into my mind (hence the title) through structured writing.

I am very excited to start this new blog because I'm terrified to share my poems and other writing. This is one way to face that fear and put it out into the world. I'm sure people will like it, hate it, not understand it, or completely relate to it. Everyone has their own opinions and I'm open to all of them.

I like poetry and short stories because they all have more than one meaning. Symbolism, imagery and underlying meanings are my favorite. The pieces I write all can have more than one meaning. I don't want you to read into it too much and think it's about a certain person, place or thing. My inspiration for these works come mainly from music, personal experience and other authors. Take away what you will from it, or just enjoy reading what I produce.

As always, feel free to message me or write in the comments any thoughts, suggestions or what you think/feel about what I write. Even though this is mainly an outlet for my writing, I love feedback from my readers. Here we go!

Until Next Time,

Keep Shining
